You're the one
POEM.
We’re new to this, both me and you.
We’ve only just met but I know it’s true.
That the love I have for you is like no other,
you’re my entire world, my heart, my mother.
First feeds
POEM
First feeds with milky soft head nuzzling in.
And a small hand curled tight around my thumb.
Bellies touching, the joy of skin to skin.
Perfect first dance and two once more as one.
New Parents
POEM.
You’ve lost track of the time
And you’ve lost count of the days.
Your eyes are tired, body sore,
I promise it won’t always be this way.
I can't do this
MUSINGS.
I can’t do this. I wept it. A guttural sob as tears streamed down my face.
A love grown
POEM.
My love let me tell you,
How it felt the day we met.
Awkward arms to hold you close,
A bond we hadn’t formed yet.
Moon Dance
POEM.
Cuddle into me little one
Tiny fingers woven into my hair.
We’ll rock and sway together,
Till we have not a care.
Longing for space.
POEM.
I’m longing for some freedom,
Or even a little space.
My arms are heavy, back sore,
But I am your favourite resting place.
The time you are in.
POEM.
I watch you watch the world go by,
Your curious eyes exploring.
Still too young to understand,
The time that you were born in.
All I want for Christmas.
POEM.
All I want for Christmas,
Is to see WA’s border open wide.
I’ve got my double dose,
I just want certainty, a guide.
Newborn haze.
POEM.
You’ve lost track of the time
And you’ve lost count of the days.
Your eyes are tired, body sore,
I promise it won’t always be this way.
Social support is a biological necessity
MUSINGS.
Social support is a biological necessity. We are not meant to mother alone. Having a support network is so important, especially in the early days of motherhood.
Just days left of you and me.
MUSINGS.
To the one who made me a mama. We’ve only got days together as just you and me (and your daddy) and I’m a mixed bag of excitement at this next chapter for our little family and grief that this current chapter is about to close.
Who am I now that I am a mother?
MUSINGS.
Who am I now that I am a mother? How does this fit with the person I was?
Starting motherhood.
MUSINGS.
The beginning of motherhood looks different for everyone and we can’t plan for everything that could and does happen during childbirth. But we can be prepared and empowered.
