I lay him in his crib beside me.
Soft, warm, sleeping.
House now quiet, in the trees birds call.
Dawn light creeping.
This is my chance to sleep a little more.
My eyes I close.
Down I burrow into warm blankets.
Covered head, toes.
And in that moment my toddler calls.
A waking ‘mum’.
I pause a moment and then get up.
My day begun.
