Map of a Mother - Poem - Digital Print (copper)

$12.00

Becoming a mother involves so many changes - physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and everything in-between. Map of a Mother is a poem acknowledging some of the changes we may experience that we might struggle with. The poem touches on those feelings of being ‘unrecognisable’ to who we were before having children, while celebrating the power of our bodies and who we are becoming.

“A body strong, life-making force.
Maiden to mother, love at its source.
A new woman rising, like no other.
Guided through by this map of a mother.”

The print is available in black and white or colour versions.

Please note that this is a digital print A4 of the sage version of Map of a Mother and you will receive an email with the file ready to download and print in the size of your choice.

Map of a Mother is a poem for our bodies - what they have done, what they continue to give us and how strong they are despite how we might feel about them or what we are told by others/society in regards to what they should look like/their value.

The poem reads:

Soft skin and rippled lines,
New veins from weight on hips and thighs.
Wrinkled eyes and bags - tired.
Signs of sleep fought for, lost. Brain fried.

Hair up in a messy bun,
The constant sensation of being undone.
Stains on clothes completely unknown.
An aching tired down to the bone.

Nipples cracked and breasts changed.
Not the momentos we look to frame.
New spots and hair falling out.
Invisible cloak of uncertainty, doubt.

A familiar face unrecognisable in the mirror.
Forever the sense that I used to know her.
A memory of birth etched into my skin.
A changed mind stretched thin.

A body strong, life-making force.
Maiden to mother, love at its source.
A new woman rising, like no other.
Guided through by this map of a mother.
