In this season you grow and grow,
body lengthens, mind expands.
Overnight you’ve learnt new skills,
A whole new world is in your hands.
There’s nowhere else you’d rather be
than held tightly in my arms.
Reassurance sought, a place of warmth,
and an embrace that always calms.
So I’ll pick you up and stroke your head
Soothe you with a smile.
And remind myself amidst the tired
That you’re only small a little while.
When arms grow heavy and body aches,
When I know I need a rest.
It’s sometimes hard to take a moment,
To reset and show up my best.
In these moments I try to remember,
that beside you I also grow.
Fumbling, learning, unlearning again,
Those new seeds for this season we sow.
For this is just another season.
Momentous, ordinary, glorious and sometimes tough.
But I have everything you need right now,
and we can ride out any rough.
